WWDC Response

So the world wide developer conference has now concluded but has left us with some Apple goodness. First up is the stunning new iPhone with an awesome pricetag and Australian confirmation. The replacement to .Mac called MobileMe offering blackberry and exchange like push email, contacts, calendars & photos compatible with both mac and PC. Speaking of mac, Apple released some details and a new website for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopar, regarding it more as refinement release rather than adding new features. Don't worry, as you read on the Snow Leopard site, there will be a number of new applications and services available to consumers and developers.

I for one like to see new information about upcoming releases, though i'm more excited knowing that in a couple of weeks I will be able to get my iPhone and stop pretending with iPod touch. It has serves me well but the iPhone and more memory will be awesome.

WWDC 2008 Predictions...or what I want from it!

Its already June 9 for us Aussies but when this magic date rolls around in San Francisco the world be graced by the work of the worlds greatest computer company, Apple. The World Wide Developer conference is about to begin in a couple of hours so I thought I would share my predictions on what will be announced. I have made it known on my blog that I have a thing for the iPhone, especially since we now have official information stating the 3G enabled phone will be offered for sale in Australia by Vodafone, Telstra and Optus, I will hopefully be getting mine as soon as possible. I think there will also be this:

Wireless Time Machine backup for iPhone
Mac OS X 10.6 Preview
New Mac Pro
A mid ranged desktop mac to sit between mini and Pro (Been on my wish list for a while)
Updated MacBook (Alloy case) with Multi-Touch

This is what I would like to see from Apple, I guess I will just have to see what happens when I wake tomorrow morning to order my iPhone :) Hopefully...

Fern 0.3 Update

Development on Fern release 0.3 has been moving along steadily among other commitments. Unlike previous versions, this one will not be released for the sake of it as there has to be a number of features finished and working before 0.3 hits the internets. It should also be noted that Fern 0.3 will be the first Alpha release, marking the the road towards betas and the final version.

Version 0.3 now has a new login interface that is much cleaner and will do for now. Also work has been going into implementing the Picasa API for uploading images with posts but I seem to be having more setbacks than step forwards with this API. This release will feature a new interface that will be very similar to the final version, while still boasting reduced size, cleaner look, better access and more advanced views.

Fern 0.3 has been put on hold for a short while as I work on Fern 0.2.5 (Core Data Revision) and as the title suggests it will be a rewritten version of 0.2 which takes advantage of Core Data for information storage. It will have a revised interface to take further advantage of this new framework, but I do not know if I will release it to the public. I can almost guarantee that 0.2.5 will become 0.3 so stay tuned for more updates.
